See my winning photos from the Wine Scholar Guild’s Burgundy photo contest (also, a very important fossil)
Last fall, I took a study trip to Burgundy as part of the Wine Scholar Guild’s Bourgogne Masters Immersion program in Beaune. The experience was unforgettable, not least because I found a mollusc fossil after being alerted by our instructor—the excellent and incredibly-patient-with-silly-questions Tim Magnus—that the ground around the vineyards was peppered with them. (Tim: “I’ve found my best fossils when I wasn’t looking.” Me: “I will now look at the ground 100% of the time with white-hot intensity.” Yes, I was that kid in grade school.)
In December, I sent off ten of my favorite photos from the trip to the Wine Scholar Guild, and earlier this month, I found out my photos had won. The photos are below. (The fossil, not part of the winning photo set but obviously a huge deal, is pictured on the right.)
